Early May & Spring Bank Holiday - Practice Closed

Based on a review of demand for GP care over the Easter Bank Holiday we have been advised by the Health Board there is sufficient capacity within the GP Out of Hours Service for anticipated demand on the upcoming May bank holidays. The Practice will not therefore be open for the early May bank holiday on Friday 8th May or the Spring bank holiday on Monday 25th May. The Health Board will continue to monitor demand for care and advise if there is any change to their recommendation.

Thank You to All Our Patients

As a practice we are very grateful for the enormous support we have received from patients. Many of you have contacted us to offer to help or sent in gifts and some have put their engineering skills to great use to manufacture some protective visors. It is much appreciated and has been great for morale! We are also very grateful for your consideration in helping us to manage patient flow through the buildings and implement social distancing which has undoubtedly helped slow the spread of Coronavirus and protect important patient groups. We are conscious however that you feel able to get in touch with us by phone about potentially important symptoms or health problems. We are here to discuss symptoms or concerns you have so please let us know - do not ignore problems or put off seeking advice.

Coronavirus Update - Requests for Rescue Packs and Inhalers

The practice is currently inundated with requests for inhalers and rescue packs. Social media messages are circulating advising patients they need to do this. If you have not recently required 'rescue packs' of antibiotics or steroids please do not request these. If you develop any respiratory symptoms it is better you discuss these rather than rely on medication that may be ineffective. Similarly, we have received a number of requests for inhalers. If you have not required an inhaler in the previous 12 months please do not request an inhaler to have 'just in case'. It is vital we prescribe appropriately and responsibly and protect the supply of important medication for patients who will need it over the coming weeks and months.

    Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The NHS and Public Health are well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious disease and the practice receives regular updates from Public Health and the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Symptoms of Coronavirus include cough, high temperature and shortness of breath - however, these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness as they are all associated with much more common illness such as the common cold or flu. DO NOT come to the surgery, go to a pharmacy or hospital if you think you may be at risk. Instead call 111 or 0845 46 47 or alternatively use the NHS 111 ONLINE CORONAVIRUS service that can tell you if you need medical help and advise you what to do. Please read the full news item for further advice.
